Green your business Christmas Party

Sustainable Christmas

It’s the festive season and a time for fun and generosity, so what better time than to Green your business Christmas Party.

Being generous does not need to stop with just humans but can extend to our environment. What better way of showing appreciation for our natural environment than to lessen the impact from our festivities. In this plastic age everything is cheap, used a few times at the most and then thrown away ‘not like the old days’

If you use the 5 R’s as your mantra you can’t go wrong:

  • Refuse
  • Reduce
  • Reuse
  • Repurpose
  • Recycle

If you can afford to go a bit slower this Christmas you might like to dabble in some alternatives to the throw-away age and start a green tinge for a positive difference.

Consider these options:

Choose a venue that doesn’t need artificial light to reduce your carbon footprint or use LED lights which use little energy. Also if the venue is close to public transport can be a winner on several levels.

Seasonal food can be sourced locally &/or caterers providing organic tasty treats. Also leftovers can be donated to organisations such as Ozharvest or many others.

Use reusable or compostable catering products made of plant material rather than petrochemical.

Natural decorations (go plastic free) and use fresh flowers, soy or beeswax candles.

Gift wrapping is extremely wasteful & alternatives can be organic cotton, hemp, silk, wood…are all natural, renewable materials.

Gift ideas:

  • donate to an organisation
  • purchase a gift certificate for a local service
  • locally made using sustainable materials (battery free)
  • tickets to an activity or passes for an experience
  • a hamper with the goods contained in something re-usable

As the festivities are coming to a close there are still many tasks that can be accomplished to add benefit to your efforts. This is the time most of the 5 R’s come into place and planning for future can take place.

Hope you have a merry festive season and if you’d like more info please see https://www.climatewave.com/checklist-to-a-sustainable-event or contact Greg Howell 0414 939 942

The Village Markets have worked with the team at CWE for the past couple of years now, implementing their zero waste management system to assist us with our goal of becoming a zero waste event - something we have been working towards in our business for some time. The team have shared their knowledge, resources and Sundays with us and in turn, we have managed to reduce our landfill diversion quite substantially. Looking forward to seeing what we're capable of in this year!
