An interview with Greg Howell, organiser of Eco Challenge Gold Coast. What is the Eco Challenge Gold Coast & why should we go?
Greg Howell has been a dedicated environmental advocate since he began surfing. He took up surfing Victoria’s coastline in the early 70’s and moved to the Gold Coast in the 1992 lured by the warmer water.
In 1989, he attended his first No Nukes Rally and he’s been a passionate environmental campaigner ever since. Greg has worked as executive director of Surfrider Foundation Australia, an organisation founded to care for the nation’s waves and beaches; he has kick started a range of local and national environmental educational programs; and has devoted time to a myriad of other environmental causes, organisations and events.
In 2008, inspired by the simple changes he believed event organisers could make to minimise the impact of events on the environment, he founded Climate Wave Enterprises, Eco-logical Event Solutions.
He is currently working to promote the practices of sustainable event management, green supply chains and cutting edge events’ knowledge that is available to event organisers around Australia.
Greg also serves as a mentor to a new generation of Surfrider Foundation members, is an Enviro Industry committee member, and a 65 1/2 Boardriders Club committee member.
